Breweries and importers, take note of this year’s China Beer Awards – the application deadline is 26 February!

China is now the world’s largest beer market and this is one of the few beer awards currently happenings in the country. With 135 medals given out in 2016, this second edition is set to be even bigger.

Ale categories include: English Bitter, Scottish Ale, Red Ale, Pale Ale, Brown Ale, Porter, Dry Stout, Sweet Stout, Oatmeal Stout, Imperial Stout, American IPA, English IPA, Belgian IPA, White IPA, Black IPA, Imperial IPA, Weissbier, Dunkelweizen, Witbier, Saison, Belgian Pale Ale, Oud Bruin, Gueuze, Lambic, Belgian Dubbel, Belgian Tripel, Belgian Strong Ale, Barleywine, Old Ale, Fruit Beer, Specialty Beer, Rye Beer, Blonde Ale, Gose.

Lager categories include: American Lager, Munich Helles, Pilsner, Vienna Lager, Oktoberfest, Munich Dunkel, Schwarzbier, Bock, Kolsch.

The judging panel includes professional beer judges, importers, and F&B representatives from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Judges include Jerry Ding 丁仁杰 (founder of Blue Whale Brewery in Henan), Zuo Jia 左佳 (president of Hunan Homebrew Association and founder of Beerbox), Belle Leung (co-founder of HK Brewcraft), Zhang Kai 张凯 (brewer for Eastgate in Tianjin), Sean Ou 歐星彣 (Shanghai-based beer judge and professional espresso taster), Raymond Ho (Hong Kong-based wine, whisky and beer judge), Si Yue 司悅 (first female brewer in Taiyuan, Shanxi), Wang Fan 王帆 (director of 18 Brewpub in Wuhan), Xiao Biar (founder of NBeer in Beijing) and Lao Jump 周敬军 (chairman of the Chengdu Craft Beer Association).

As mentioned, the application deadline is 26 February. Samples (6x 330ml or equivalent) are due by 5 March, judging takes place on 10 & 11 March, and then winners will be announced on 26 March.
